The Mark
Through the works of 4 artists who share the same medium of art, photography but with distinct worlds of art, the artists’ view of daily lives and imaginations will be introduced.
The history of our times and daily lives will be presented through Kim Yun-Ho and Kim Yeh-Kyung’s works in which the works may seem like a picture of an ordinary, daily life but in a deeper level, there is an emphasis on the significance of recording our surroundings.
Kang Hong Gu and Yoo Hyun Mi’s work will portray virtual worlds where the reality is interconnected within the work and images of surreal worlds that give off sensual atmosphere of classic paintings.
Kim Yun-Hoo observed and captured the photographic images of the reality of our society where people are living unconsciously living by fixed set of rules and formalities.
<1,000 buses in Berlin> , an arrangement of photos capturing the side of 1000 buses with distinct exteriors and <A series of Postcards> the captures the images of the places that commonly appear on postcard we buy in vacation spots are his works that best represent the formalized behavior patterns and reated issues arising in our modern society. By capturing those various places and their individual cultures, customs and products, he attempted to emphasize the fundamental meaning and joy of traveling that has been neglected in our society.
On the other hand, Kim Ye-Kyung’s work is significant in its storytelling format. She expresses her ideas by
In the exhibition, Kang Hong Gu, artist who is very critical on social system and reality, will be presenting a piece of work, a synthesized, black and white image the was created at the beginning of 2000. This piece of work is expressed in a dream –like image in which the landscapes of common places are mixed whit other elements such as fish or images. In this way, the image becomes surreal as various independent and seemingly unrelated objects appear in the same dimension and consequently opens up a new virtual world where the propertie can’t be explalined by a languageor or any other logicl methods. Kang’s anther work, a colored nude parody of the ‘Christina’s Word’ by Andrew wyeth is presented as the backyard of a Korean apartment.
In Yoo Hyun Mi’s work where sculptures, paintings and photography is all mixed together, the paintings are in the background and sculptures are arranged as in a still-life painting. It gives us a distinct atmosphere of a classic painting and the virtual word she has created seems to leap over the past, present and future of our lives. And various, complex genres and elements, and her intentions are successfully embedded in this world. Her reinterpretation of paintings and photographic images and the painting-like work of Yoo demonstrates her exotic sense of art and she is expected to open up new path into the world of modern art.
